Where Are These Wrinkles Coming From?
Have you been preparing for and hoping to avoid wrinkles by using facial creams and other topical treatments over the years? While these can help promote healthy skin on the outside, most facial lines result from repetitive muscle movements and the loss of subcutaneous fat underneath the skin. This is a natural part of getting older. Volume loss brings muscles closer to the skin, making lines more visible and causing a loss of facial volume. Additional causes of lines can be years of sun exposure, life events, and hereditary reasons.
How Wrinkle Relaxers Can Help
Wrinkle Relaxers/Botox (also called neurotoxin, or “tox”) are injected into the muscles in the area of the face where you have wrinkles. The job of the neurotoxin is to block the contraction of the muscles causing the wrinkles, leaving the skin at rest when you smile, squint, or make other facial expressions. Neurotoxins are not permanent and last anywhere from two to four months. Patients will make follow-up appointments to renew injections as each session begins to wear off.

What exactly is Botox?
Botox is an injected medication that belongs to the neuromodulator class of medications. Botox is a purified protein that, when injected into muscles, relaxes the wrinkles that cause frown lines or crow’s feet. Clients feel more refreshed after treatment, which may make you appear younger.
Botox injections were the most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedure in 2020, according to a study conducted by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, with 4.4 million procedures performed last year.
Botox is a medical procedure that should be treated as such; at Lasting Beauty Medispa, our registered nurse injector has performed hundreds of Botox treatments on a variety of satisfied clients. Plan on a consultation period before beginning treatment; this can be done on the same day as your treatment.
Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, and Xeomin are the four FDA-approved neurotoxins currently in use. They all contain the same active ingredient, and most people use the term “Botox” when speaking about it. Another longer-acting option, “Daxxify,” is being gradually released nationally (December 2022).
Botox brand relaxes muscles in 7-10 days. Most people see Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau results two to four days after their injections. You should not expect to see the full effects of your injection for up to 12-14 days. Another thing to keep in mind is that muscles do not all relax at the same time, so you may see the relaxation kick in faster in some areas, this can happen, and will settle down. At Lasting Beauty Medispa, we will schedule you for a 2 week follow up, to ensure the best results, you may or may not need a touch-up, but especially with first time visits, or as you continue to age, the dosing may need adjustments.
At Lasting Beauty Medispa, we use the smallest needle available on the market. You may feel a slight “sting” as the medication is administered. Most people have had a blood draw or a vaccine, both of which are far more painful than the sensation caused by Botox injections.
Expect to see tiny, pink, and raised bumps on the treated area for up to 30 minutes as the medication absorbs into the muscle. We will also advise you not to touch or rub the area, not to exercise on the day of treatment, and to stay upright for the first four hours. If you do not follow these guidelines, you run the risk of the Botox spreading to other muscles near the treated area and causing unintended relaxation of those muscles.
After years of regular injections, the only effect of discontinuing BOTOX treatments is that your wrinkles will return.
A typical treatment can cost between $300 and $600.
